Admissions

The admission policy of West Sussex is outlined in the booklet “Information for Parents” which is published by the Education Authority. This can be accessed on the West Sussex County Council website admissions information page.

Schools in West Sussex are categorised as community, voluntary controlled and voluntary aided. Community and voluntary controlled schools serve catchment areas. Bartons Primary School is a community school. We are also called a one-form entry school which has one class in each year groups. Our class capacity is up to 30 pupils in each class and so every year there are 30 places for Reception children when they start school.

Parents are very welcome to visit the school. Please make an appointment at the school office on the telephone number 01243 822056. During the autumn term, we hold two Open Afternoons for prospective new parents to visit the school and to have a guided tour by one of our older children. Mrs Powell, the Headteacher, is happy to answer any questions that parents have.

Admissions inquiries need to be made through the offices at :

Bartons Admission Policy is as follows: ‘Pupils start school in the September following their fourth birthday. Parents have the right to choose whether their child starts full or part-time but they must be in full-time education in the term following their fifth birthday. This is negotiated with the parent and the school based on the needs of the child.

All admission queries are dealt with by West Sussex Admissions South. Bartons does not hold its own admission lists and so does not have information on waiting lists. West Sussex Admissions also deal with appeals and the appeal process.
