STEM Week
We have had so much fun!
We had an F1 focus and we spent the week learning all about the job roles before we started creating our own F1 racing cars!
We designed our cars like real engineers, picked sponsors and team logos and followed instructions on how to build the car. Once the body was built we attached a motor so that it could move in its own.
We went into the hall to race the fastest cars against each other and each car was judged on 3 things: appearance, speed and strength.
We went head-to-head with the finalist cars from Year 4 and we took the win! Well done to Evelyn, Freddie & Natalie!
Creative Arts Week!
We were lucky to have an artist visit out school on inset day and teach our teachers some really cool things that can be done with just card and tape! Darrell Wakelam specialises in 3D sculptures using simple techniques and cheap, everyday materials, mainly scrap cardboard and paper. This makes the outcomes accessible and achievable for everyone.
This children had a great time learning the techniques and creating masks, turtles, body parts and large animal sculptures!
Paul Sturgess Visit
Paul Sturgess is an English former professional basketball player. At a height of 7 ft 7.26 in, he was measured as the tallest living person from the United Kingdom by Guinness World Records in November 2011. He was also the tallest college basketball player in the United States. We were lucky enough to have him visit our school and lead a basketball workshop with hazel class. the workshop was not only fun but incredibly motivational.
Alison Wright visit
We were incredibly lucky to be visited by Alison who spoke to Hazel class about living with a disability and the children asked some very mature questions. We felt that the work was vital in helping to shape Hazel class who will grow up with a positive attitude to difference and disability.
Rocks and Fossils
This term, amongst the Christmas play craziness, the children in Hazel class have been LOVING this terms topic. This week we put on our archaeologist/geologist and palaeontologist hats and started digging! We discovered a wide range of rocks, fossils, precious stones and minerals. The children have loved it and been utterly engaged the whole time.
1st week back to school...
BISCUIT EXPERIMENT!
This week we had so much fun getting to know our new teachers and doing a biscuit dunking experiment - we even got to do a taste test!
We talked about our favourite biscuits and collected data from the class in a tally chart before putting it into a bar chart.
We then got to try the yummy biscuits and rate them!
We dunked them to see which biscuit lasted the most amount of dunks!
We designed biscuit packaging and got to make some biscuits to take home and eat! Yum!
