Welcome Message from Mrs Kate Powell

Welcome to Bartons Primary School

Thank you very much for visiting our new school website. I hope that you find all of the information that you are looking for and it gives you a flavour of our friendly and popular school.

At Bartons, we pride ourselves on being a happy and family school where learning and growing potentials is at the heart of everything that we do.  Relationships between the children and adults are strong where every child is known well by the dedicated staff and we embrace team working with the whole of our school community. We want our children to be happy and confident and we work hard to provide a safe, fun and caring environment. Every child is special to us and we work closely in partnership with parents to build on each child's  individual skills and talents in order  that they develop a love of learning and enjoy school.  We strive to develop the whole child and we believe that our inclusive and creative curriculum will stimulate and motivate young curious minds.

Our school motto is 'Dream, Believe, Achieve' and we believe that every child has the potential to follow their dreams and aspire to being the very best version of themselves. We set high standards and give the children a variety of different opportunities and experiences to complement their learning.

In English lessons, we encourage children to love books and to read for pleasure. Stories are celebrated and we use Accelerated Reader to track progress. We believe children should consider themselves authors and love writing. We follow a writing journey which includes immersive activities to encourage the children to really understand the text type, characters, plot and setting. We then teach GPS and writing skills which may include class shared writing.

In Maths, we follow the Numicon approach which teaches a progression of skills carefully planned to immerse children in using the CPA approach to deepen learning and understanding for mastery. We are a Numicon Advocate School where we have been recognised for our work in the teaching and learning of Maths. We are the only Numicon Advocate School in West Sussex; our children love Maths.

We promote British Values and have a set of agreed Core Learning Values and Skills which underpin all aspects of learning. These are embedded into our curriculum and are promoted through our School Council, School Assemblies, Growth Mindset work and our collaborative learning approach 'Working With Others' activities.

At Bartons, teamwork is vitally important and so our House System and WWO approach encourages the children to be proud of their school and to take responsibility for their behaviour, learning and to look after their working environment. For this reason, we call ourselves Team Bartons.

Please come and visit us if you would like to find out more about Team Bartons and thank you for visiting our school website.

Best wishes
