Book Week 2025

Book Week 2025

This year’s Book Week was a vibrant celebration of reading, creativity and storytelling, all inspired by the brilliant work of Steve Webb, author and illustrator of much‑loved picture books and comic strips.    Throughout the week, the children explored Steve’s storytelling style, enjoying his funny characters, bold illustrations, and lively comic‑style layouts.

A huge thank you to the teachers for making this Book Week a memorable one. We look forward to continuing to foster a love of reading and creativity throughout the year!

Elm, Beech and Chestnut Classes

Children in Elm, Beech and Chestnut Class explored Steve Webb’s lively picture books, including Cows Go Boo! and Tanka Tanka Skunk. These texts helped them learn more about rhyme, syllables, and onomatopoeia, sparking lots of laughter and language play.

Pupils also discovered how comics are made—experimenting with panels, speech bubbles, expressions, and sound effects—and enjoyed taking part in online draw‑along storytime sessions, where they sketched characters step by step.

Hazel, Ash, Lime and Cedar Classes

In the older classes, pupils dived into Steve Webb’s Peng and Spanner books, using them as inspiration to learn how to create their own comic strips and graphic‑novel style pages. They explored pacing, action sequences, character design and how visual storytelling can bring humour to life. KS2 also had the special treat of an online workshop learning how to draw in Manga style.

World Book Day Dress‑Up

On World Book Day, the whole school embraced a comic book theme, and it was fantastic to see the creativity on display— from comic‑strip pyjamas and superheroes to Dennis the Menace and bold onomatopoeia: “POW!” “BAM!” “WHACK!”

House Book Sharing

One of the highlights of the week was seeing older and younger children come together during our House Book Sharing sessions. Pupils paired up to read, talk about favourite characters, and enjoy stories together—capturing the true spirit of Book Week.
